Chelsea Ineasia Hayes Smith, was born August 5, 1997 to Cynthia Smith and James Maxie, Jr., in Chattanooga. She died on May 13, 2012. 

She was presented to the Lord in Baptism October 29, 2006 at McDowell Memorial Church of God In Christ where she remained a member.

Chelsea attended Mary Ann Garber (Pre-K) Lakeside Academy (K-5) Brown Middle School (6-8) and was a freshman at Central High School until her untimely death.

She is survived by her precious son, De’Mari Markell (Hayes) Strickland; a gracious and loving mother, Cynthia A. Smith, Chattanooga; father, James Maxie, Jr., Dallas; a beautiful blessed grandmother, Ina Smith, grandfather, R.B. Smith, Sr., Chattanooga; brothers, Kevin Joynes, Atlanta, Zyjameeon Maxie, Midland, Tx.; sister, Khadijah Maxie Washington, Dallas; niece, Kayla Joynes, Jackson, Tn.; aunts, Gwendolyn Smith, Chattanooga; Paula Smith, Atlanta; uncles, Rodney Smith, Grenada, Ms.; R.B. Smith,  Jr., Chattanooga; cousins, Tramaine Smith, Courtney Martin, Rodney Smith, Keith Rawls, Brian Smith, Latalia (Ford) Smith, Breanna Smith, Eddiezion Smith; a host of other loving relatives and friends; special people in her life, Christopher Winston Sr., Christopher Winston Jr., Derrick Strickland, Vivian Jones, Regina Kirk, Tabitha Chandler, Terrell Winston, Tommy Gates and the McDowell Memorial Church of God In Christ.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 19, at noon at McDowell Memorial COGIC with Supt. C. H. Douglas, officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after 4 p.m. on Friday, May 18, with the family receiving friends 7–8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
