Melvin L. Parker, 83, of Soddy Daisy, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the Soddy Daisy Healthcare Center.
He was a deacon at Sequoyah Baptist Church. Melvin was employed at Combustion Engineering in the Nuclear Division for 20 years and retired as owner of Parkers Cabinet Shop. He was a Shriner and enjoyed woodworking, camping and watching the Atlanta Braves.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Nancy Parker; wife, Ruby; daughter, Stephanie Goforth; grandson, Randy Jones; sister, Flossie Murdock and brother, Barto Davenport.
Survivors include his wife, Oma Parker; sons, Ben (Carolyn) Parker and Rick (Sandra) Parker; daughters, Donna (Allen) Branum and Debbie (Randy) Jones; sister, Viola Stuart; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Melvin’s family would like to thank the employees at Soddy Daisy Healthcare Center for their kindness and excellent care.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 18, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Stancil officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is Thursday, May 17, from 4-9 p.m., and Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
