Joseph Erle Johnson, 61, died in his Memphis home on May 4, 2012.
He was a native of Memphis, although he lived in Chattanooga for a number of years. He was a graduate of Memphis University School, Georgia Tech (BS), and the University of Memphis (MSCE). At the time of his death, he was employed by Federal Express in Memphis. He was a member of MENSA, and enjoyed intellectual pursuits, such as astronomy, math, and music.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Louis M. Johnson, Sr., of Gallatin, Tn., and his mother, Harriette Geiger Johnson of Signal Mountain.
He is survived by his brother, Louis M. (Margaret) Johnson, Jr., of Signal Mountain, niece Katherine (Michael) Pody and children of Hixson, nephew Chip (Kachai) Johnson and children of Lebanon, Tn., and Aunt Olivia (Dick) Stachoreck of Perry, Ga.
The family and close friends will observe a brief memorial service 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, at the Chapel of Devotion of Hamilton Memorial Gardens prior to entombment.
