A man who shot and killed his estranged wife and mother-in-law in a waiting room at a Fort Oglethorpe Hospital received a life prison sentence after pleading guilty on Thursday morning.
James Benson, 59, appeared in Walker County Superior Court in the Jan. 6 slayings at Erlanger Hutcheson Medical Center.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of malice murder in the shooting deaths of Mary Sue Benson, 56, and her mother, Charlotte Johnson, 77.
Benson will become eligible for parole consideration after serving 30 years.
The women were visiting a relative who was in the intensive care unit.
Benson drove straight to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department after leaving the hospital.
