Firefighters from the Chattanooga Fire Department are teaming up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) this weekend, to “Fill the Boot.”
Firefighters will be at Sam’s Club on Lee Highway, Ace Hardware on Highway 58, McDonald’s on Hixson Pike, Chick-Fil-A on 153, Coolidge Park and various Wal-Mart locations (Brainerd Road, Signal Mountain Road, Highway 153, Cummings Highway) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day to collect money in support of MDA.
These “Boot Drives” offer the community a chance to donate money that will be used in the battle against neuromuscular diseases.
The proceeds collected from the Boot Drive will aid local children and adults with neuromuscular diseases by providing clinic visits, support groups, a week-long summer camp for local children ages six through 17 to attend, and most importantly research.
Officials said, "For over 55 years, firefighters and MDA have partnered to fight neuromuscular diseases. As if it doesn’t suffice to jump into burning buildings, respond to emergencies in hazardous, life-threatening situations, and place it all on the line every day, some firefighters find the time to even go beyond that calling. One such department is the Chattanooga Fire Department. Last year they were able to rasie over $18,000 because of the generosity of local citizens. Please save your spare change and help fill a boot this weekend to make a difference."
