Herbert “Uncle Herbert” Wilson, 95, died on Friday, May 12, 2012, peacefully in his sleep, at St. Barnabas Nursing Home in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  

He was born on March 10, 1916 to the late Sam and late Pearl Wilson. 

He retired from US Pipe and Mueller Co.  He was a member of the Antioch P. B. Church where he has served in the Men’s Sunday School Class; Male Chorus; Senior Choir and Trustee Board.

He was married to the late Josephine Smith Wilson. He was also preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers and three grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Vernell Wilson, Chattanooga; Janet Smith, Riverside, Ca., and Lorna Mae (Joshua) Robinson, Long Beach, Ca.; nine grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren of Riverside and Long Beach, Ca.; a very devoted caregiver, Althea “Gail” Elder; devoted nieces, Pearl Stinson, Andrea Williams, JoAnn Smith, Wanda Cochran, Cheryl Graham, Mecole King of Chattanooga; Elizabeth Clark of Eutaw, Ala.; devoted nephew, Willie Walker; a host of nieces and nephews in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, D.C., North Carolina, Ohio, Michigan and California; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, May 19, at Antioch P. B. Church with Elder James Leslie officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Friday, May 18, with the family receiving friends from 7–8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
