Notre Dame Wins Region 4-A/AA Title On Golden Goal

Holley Scored Game Winner In 108th Minute

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Both teams knew the region championship between CCS and Notre Dame would be a battle.  The last time the two teams met Notre Dame won on penalty kicks after battling for 110 minutes.

Thursday's Region 4 A/AA final would also need extra time and Notre Dame found the game winner in the 108th minute.

The win by Notre Dame earns them home field on Saturday's sectional match against Boyd-Buchanan who lost to East Hamilton in the region 3-A/AA final.

CCS will play at East Hamilton on Saturday.

Only the sectional winners will advance to the Class A/AA state tournament.

Both teams had plenty of scoring oppurtunities but were unable to find the net through the 80 minutes of regulation and two,  10 minute overtimes.

Notre Dame missed on a close shot in the first sudden death overtime period and with just under two minutes left in the second suddent death overtime, Kyle Holley snuck the ball past the CCS defense and keeper after a throw in by William DeBarge.

Notre Dame head coach Jim Schermerhorn thought both teams created some good chances.

"We had some good chances, but so did they," Schermerhorn said, "I thought we defended well and our keeper played well along with our four backs."

The Irish keeper Tim Barnes had seven saves on CCS seven shots.

The Charger keepers, Trae Terry and Cameron Anderson, combined for seven saves also on seven shots by Notre Dame.

After the match, CCS head coach Shawn Brower was ready to put this one behind him.

"We win together and we lose together," CCS head coach Shawn Brower said of his team. "We also move on together to the next game."

CCS beat Notre Dame 1-0 in their regular season match up.

CCS will play at East Hamilton on Saturday at 5 p.m.   East Hamilton beat CCS earlier this year 2-1.

East Hamilton is on a 16-match win streak.  Their last loss was the first match of the season - to Notre Dame 3-1.
