Opal Burgess Booth, 98, of East Ridge, Tennessee, died on Thursday, May 17, 2012.  

She was a member of Calvary Bible Church and taught Sunday School for several years at Chattanooga Gospel Tabernacle and later at First Alliance Church.  Her home and church were most important to Opal.  

She was born in Gadsden, Ala., on November 15, 1913 to Baney M. and Vera McNair Burgess and graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga.

Opal was preceded in death by her son, David W. Booth; two sisters, Wynema Smith and Susie Bishop.

Survivors include her husband of 74 years, P.D. Booth; daughter-in-law, Vickey Booth; granddaughter, Ashley Booth; grandson, Aaron Booth; great-grandson, Gage Brown; three nephews, Joe Smith of Indianapolis, In., Tommy Smith of Chattanooga, and Charles Smith of Knoxville; several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Reverend William Henry and the Reverend Gene Hall officiating. Private burial will be later in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, at the funeral home.

Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
