Trent Lusk is taking his impressive passing stats to Centre College, while McCallie classmates Sylar Holmes (Sewanee) and Seth Phillips (Emory & Henry) will play their own brand of fotball (i.e. soccer) in the fall; all three at NCAA D-III Southern schools.

Lusk was a three-year starting quarterback for McCallie with nearly 4,000 passing passing yards, an additional 744 yards on the ground and a combined 39 career touchdowns.

“Centre runs a spread offense and looks for a quarterback who can run and throw so Centre College is a perfect match for me,” said Lusk who will be given a chance to start as a freshman for the Colonels who were 9-2 and an NCAA post-season participant last fall.

“We are thrilled that Trent has committed to Centre,” said Centre head football coach Andy Frye.

“The competition that Trent played against while at McCallie will give him an upper hand when he arrives for camp this August. He is very athletic, good size, with a strong arm - we believe Trent can compete next year at the quarterback position. His best football is still ahead for him.”

Sewanee-Centre: The Lusk family will only have to travel an hour up the road to see Lusk and the Colonels football team this fall as they visit Sewanee on Oct. 6.

Holmes will attend Sewanee on a vice-chancellor’s academic scholarship, is a two-year starter at center back for the Blue Tornado soccer team and has a 3.86 grade point average.

“Sewanee offers what I am looking for in a college with high academic standards, the opportunity to play college soccer and also be involved in the university’s chorale group,” said Holmes.

A right outside back on defense, Phillips heads to Emory & Henry on a pair of academic scholarships – presidential and  pre-health –and looks to compete for a starting spot in the fall.

The Emory & Henry coach showed great interest in me on my visit which was encouraging,” said Phillips. “The small school feel and solid academics makes for the perfect match for me.”

Teammates for Seven Years: Holmes and Phillips started on the McCallie middle school soccer team as sixth graders and have been teammates for seven years.
