John William "Bill" Jones was born May 4, 1921, and died Sunday morning, April 29, 2012.
Bill was born in Atlanta, Ga., and lived in Signal Mountain, Brentwood, Tn., and Oklahoma City, Okla., in his early years. He finally settled in the Chattanooga/Chickamauga area. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps, Photo Interpreters Group, and served in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon returning from military duty, he received his diploma from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a degree in Agriculture Economics.
He was a welder, teacher, and helicopter pilot, but his greatest love was farming. He was able to combine all his skills into that one love. Bill was a lifelong presbyterian and a member of Chickamauga Presbyterian, Trion Presbyterian and Hope Fellowship Evangelical Presbyterian Churches, and was ordained as a deacon and elder in the Presbyterian Church.
His beloved wife, Isabelle, preceded him in death by one week.
He is survived by his sons, Stephen (Sarah) and Andrew; grandchildren, Faith (David), Andrew (Charity), Elisabeth, and Abigail; and three great-grandchildren, Isabelle Ann, Jack, and Lena.
