James E. Hardin, 65, of Dalton, Ga., died Monday, April 30, 2012 at his residence. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James D. and Annie Mae Hardin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Mae Woods; and brother-in-law, Pete Woods. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Carol Hardin of the residence; daughter and special friend, Jill Vineyard and Eric Townsend of Dalton; sons and daughter-in-law, Jamison and Dawn Hardin of Cartersville, Eric Hardin, Stephen Hardin and special friend, Alice Oliver, all of Dalton; sister, Mary Ann Smith of Dalton; brother, George Johnson of Chatsworth; two precious grandchildren, Seth Vineyard, Brooklynn Hardin, both of Dalton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy and Ruth Woods; two sisters-in-law, Anna Young of Dalton and Linda Woods of Cohutta; special cousins, Bill and Smokey Combs of Marietta; nieces and nephews. 

The funeral service to celebrate the life of James Hardin will be held Thursday, May 3, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. John McIntosh officiating. Burial will be in United Memorial Gardens. 

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 2 from 5-8 p.m. at the Julian Peeples Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Rock Bridge Local Missions or Dalton Family Promise.

Keenan Scott Slaughter, 52, of Jasper, TN, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Slaughter and Millie Duvall Sloan. William “Bill” Wills Dowdy, 82, died on May 23, at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, following a very brief illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1931, in Brownsville, Tn., to the late Arvil Odell Dowdy and Alma Juanita Bright Dowdy. Bill was a graduate of Red Bank High School. Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
