MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Soddy-Daisy's fans showed up at the BlueCross Spring Fling on Tuesday night wearing "That Was Nasty Skeet'' t-shirts.

Kelsey "Skeeter'' Nunley, their ace pitcher, didn't disappoint.

The University of Kentucky signee gave up only two hits, struck out 16 and led the Lady Trojans past Daniel Boone, 2-0, in eight innings. Nunley recorded the 1,000th strikeout of her career during the game.

Soddy-Daisy, ranked No. 22 nationally in the ESPN Rise FAB 50 poll, improved to 43-4. Daniel Boone, which entered the game with 43 home runs on the season, dropped to 44-5.

The Lady Trojans will play again on Wednesday at approximately 1 p.m. eastern time against Munford, which beat Mt. Juliet, 6-5, Tuesday night.

"My nerves didn't get to be before the game today,'' Nunley said. "But I just did OK. That's not exactly what I want, but I'll take it. We won the game and that's all that matters.''

Said Soddy-Daisy coach Clifford Kirk, "We did what had had to do. You have to win that first one or you won't win many up here.''

Soddy-Daisy had 10 hits off Boone's Kellie Waycaster, but stranded 10.

Finally, in the top of the eighth the Lady Trojans broke through.Olivia Williams opened with a single up the middle and Haley Reynolds followed with a hard single to left field. Savannah Moore bunted for a single, loading the bases. Soddy-Daisy took a 1-0 lead when Hannah Smith was hit-by-a-pitch.

Brittany Lanham, who has seen limited action this year due to a knee injury, followed with a line-drive single off the third-baseman's glove.

"Man, that felt good, '' said Lanham, who also had a walk earlier in the game. "My knee is feeling a lot better. I've been doing physical therapy and I'm ready to play.''

Reynolds was 3-for-4 for Soddy-Daisy and was robbed of another hit on a hard line-drive to left field. Williams was 2-for-4.
