Four Chattanooga Net Teams in State Finals Wednesday

MURFREESBORO - 5/22/12 -- Baylor, GPS and Notre Dame girls all seek state tennis titles here Wednesday at Old Fort Park, while the Collegedale Academy boys' hope for the school's first state championship in any sport.

12:30 p.m. EDT - D-I A-AA Boys- Collegedale Academy (17-3) vs. Unicoi County (10-0)

D-I AAA Boys ... Knox West vs.

2:30 p.m. - D-II A Boys -  ** Webb School of Knox vs Univ School Nashville

D-II AA Boys - ** MBA vs. MUS

Four Chattanooga Teams Ih the Finals

Girls A-AA: Notre Dame girls look to close out a perfect season (13-0) against Christian Academy of Knoxville ... 10 a.m. Wedneday ... more importantly, an opportunity to win the school's first state crown in girls tennis ... In the semis, ND defeated Page, 4-0, and CAK stopped Union County, 4-0

Boys A-AA: Collegedale (17-3) takes on Unicoi County (10-0) .. In the semis, Collegedale defeated Huntingdon, 4-1, while Unicoi Co. defeared Christ Presbyterian, 4-3 .

In the Unicoi Co. - CPA match, it was 3-3 and the match was decided at No.2 doubles ... Unicoi won the last two games, both on deuce point,  for a 9-7 win and a place in the finals.

Czech Republic Duo: Matei Holka (10-0) of Unicoi Co. is from the town of Kadan and plays No. 3 singles, while Mike Sintar of Collegedale plays No.1 singles and is also from the Czech Republic ... both are in the United States for one school year as exchange students  ... Unicoi County's Pascal Koch (9-0) is from near Stuttgart, Germany and plays No.1 singles ....

Brother-Sister Duo for Unicoi County ...  Reed Jackson (plays No. 2 singles) and Mallory Jackson are brother and sister and will be competing in the individual state tourney Thursday and Friday .. Reed and teammate Pascal Koch are in the doubles, while Mallory is in singles .  their half sister is Brooke Parsons who won the 1998 state singles crown also for Unicoi County and then played four years of tennis at the Air Force Academy .. the two exchange students - Koch and Holka - live with the Jacksons ...

Girls D-II AA: Defending champion and undefeated Baylor faces GPS for the fourth time this season ... this is the third straight year that the two Chattanooga schools have met in the state finals ... GPS won in 2010 and Baylor a year ago ...

Tuesday, Baylor defeated Harpeth Hall, 4-0, while  GPS stopped Hutchison, 4-0

Minor Violation: a Baylor tennis coach was accidently left off the official team roster at the beginning of the season ... In one of Tuesday's matches, one official questioned how many coaches Baylor had ... the school will be fined $500 for the coach not on file with the TSSAA.

 In D-II AA Boys semis, MUS defeated Baylor, 4-2, while two-time defending champ MBA defeated McCallie, 4-0.

Baylor had beaten MUS in the semis in 2011 .. Wednesday's final will be without a Chattanooga team for the first time since 2005 when MUS defeated MBA, 4-0 ... McCallie won four straight titles, 2006-07-08-09 and Baylor was runner-up in 2010 and 2011.

"It was a great match today between two strong teams and good sportstmanship during all the matches," said Baylor coach Ned Caswell.

"I am excited and relieved that our team is in the finals" said MUS coach Phil Chamberlain. "I knew that Baylor would be a great opponent and I expected a tough match."
