E. Edward “Eddie” Schrader, 63, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, May 21, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer.  He died peacefully at a local hospital surrounded by those he loved most, his family.

 

After graduating from East Ridge High School, Eddie attended Tennessee Tech and then went on to serve as a Plankholder of the USS Anchorage in the U.S. Navy.  It was his days in the Navy that instilled in him a lifelong love of boating.

 

He was a longtime member and director of the Greater Chattanooga Bowling Association, served as the current president of the Chattanooga Sheet Metal Association and is a member of Stuart Heights Baptist Church.

 

Eddie was a hard worker who loved his job because he had the privilege to work alongside his family as the third generation at JD Helton Roofing Company, Inc.  He served as the vice president and co-owner at JD Helton Roofing where he devotedly worked for 44 years.

 

Family was the center of his world.  Eddie was a simple man with an enormous heart who could always put a smile on your face.  His family was his number one priority in life.  To those who knew him best, he will forever be remembered as a faithful and loving son, husband, father, brother and granddaddy.  He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, JH “Bud” Schrader.

 

Survivors are his wife of 44 years, Deborah “Debbie” Schrader;  mother, Dorothy Helton Schrader;   two sons, Timothy Scott Schrader and Anthony Todd (Angel) Schrader;  brother, Herman (Mary) Schrader;  three grandchildren, Kristen, Jessica and Elizabeth Grace all of Chattanooga;  sister in law, Patricia (Mike) Harris, Huntsville, Ala.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins.

 

Services will be held on Thursday, May 24, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Brian K. Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Gene McGee, Jerry Carr, Mark Hooton, George Robinson, Clyde Coe and Billy Quinn serving as pallbearers.
