Charlotte Geraldine Payne,81, of Chatsworth, Ga., died Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Hamilton Medical Center. 

Geraldine was born November 9, 1930, in Fannin County, Ga., a daughter of the late Jessie and Hester Phillips Payne; and was also preceded in death by her sister, Patsy Whitmire; and brother-in-law, Eugene Soi. 

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jessie Payne Jr. and Genna Payne; sisters and brothers-in-law, Neppie Ruth "Bibby" Soi of Dalton, Polly and Robert Dilbeck of Tunnel Hill, Jewel Hunter of Chatsworth, Glenda and H.A. Newman of Calhoun, Ga. and Teresa and Melvin Dills (also her caregiver) of Chatsworth; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Graveside services to celebrate the life of Ms. Charlotte Geraldine Payne will be held Thursday May 24, at 11 a.m. from the Barnes Chapel Church in Blue Ridge, Ga. with Reverend Floyd Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 at the Ponders Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
