Fundraiser for Restoring LaFayette Markers June 14

One Eleven restaurant will host a fundraiser to assist with the cost of restoring six historic markers in LaFayette.                                                      

The wine and cheese tasting fundraiser will be Thursday, June 14, from 5:30-8 p.m. at One Eleven restaurant on the Square in downtown LaFayette.  Tickets cost $15 each or two for $25.

 LaFayette’s Historic Preservation Commission and Downtown Development Authority are working with the Walker County Historical Society to raise funds to restore the five markers in front of Chattooga Academy and the one at Fort Cumming.  These markers were erected by the state historical society in the 1950s.

 The cost to replace the posts and to restore the markers, which will include preparing and re-painting the signs and replacing the posts, will be $4,500.  A Wal-mart Foundation grant, a recent Pizza Hut fundraiser and donations from civic groups and individuals have raised nearly $2,750.
