New Dischord Festival Is June 14-17

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

The line-up for the 2012 New Dischord Festival in Chattanooga (June 14-17) is now posted on  the website www.newdischord.org.

Tim Hinck, the New Dischord Ensemble, and the Shaking Ray Levi Society who produce this event, continue to shape this grass-roots festival of new and experimental music, and explore performances that take place in non-traditional venues (such as galleries, museums, residences, cafés, and pop-music venues).  They are also continuing to explore collaborations between musicians and conceptual artists by presenting work that is visually as well as aurally engaging, officials said.

Highlights of this year's festival include:

A semi-staged production of Ricky Ian Gordon's Orpheus and Euridice (with Sara Snider Schone, soprano; and Dr. Nikolasa Tejero, clarinet)

Experimental double bassist Evan Lipson

Several world premieres

A sonic walk-through performance written by Tim Hinck featuring boy soprano Ethan Tatum and brass quartet

A collaboration between six vocalists and conceptual artist Ashley Hamilton

The Shaking Ray Levi's are producing the pre-festival kick-off event at Barking Legs Theater:
