An online petition drive has been launched to ask county school officials to rescind the decision of Supt. Rick Smith to suspend Signal Mountain High School Principal Tom McCullough for the remainder of the school year.
By Wednesday afternoon, there were 186 signing on, including many with ties to Signal Mountain High/Middle.
Dr. McCullough is retiring at the end of this year. He has long been an educator in the Chattanooga area including many years as principal at Hixson High School and David Brainerd School prior to his time at Signal Mountain.
The suspension is without pay.
A number of Signal Mountain seniors were suspended for drinking on a senior trip to the Bahamas, then seven chaperones who were on the trip were suspended as well for incidents involving drinking. Five of those chaperones have received letters from the state saying their teaching contracts have been flagged for a year.
