Over 1,500 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Scout leaders and parents will gather at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Saturday to place U.S. flags on each grave.
Ceremonies begin at 8 a.m. at the Armed Forces Pavilion. The Choo Choo Chorus will open with the National Anthem. The guest speaker is Yeomen First Class U.S. Navy, Retired Curtis Henderson. The ceremony will conclude with a 21-gun salute from the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council Honor Guard. There will also be a display by the Command Post Museum.
Following the ceremony, Scouts will break into groups and place U.S. Flags on over 50,000 veterans’ graves. Scouts from Chattanooga and surrounding areas have participated in this annual Good Turn for America service project for over 20 years. Many Scouts and leaders take pride in placing a flag on the grave of a family member interned in the cemetery.
This event is sponsored by Chattanooga Coca Cola Bottling Co., US Express, Rotary Club of Chattanooga Hamilton Place and Chattanooga Funeral Home.
