Evelyn D. Durand, 98, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2012.  Born Evelyn Teresa Denis in Central Village, Ct., in 1914, she resided in New Haven, Hamden and Clinton, CT throughout most of her life until she moved to Chattanooga 20 years ago to be near her family.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, William and Sarah Pearl Clark Denis of New Haven, Ct.; an infant daughter, Barbara Ann Fuhr; and devoted husbands: Herbert F. Fuhr of Mt. Carmel, Ct., Donald McArthur of Clinton, Ct., and Alexander Durand of Chattanooga; brother, Chester Denis of West Haven, Ct.; and sister, Olive Denis Higgins of Mt. Carmel, Ct.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Fuhr Smith; son-in-law, Richard D. Smith of Hixson; step-daughter, Donna McArthur of Ct.; grandchildren:  Richard T. Smith and his wife, Tricia Gleissner Smith of Baroda, MI, Kristen B. Levi and her husband, Zach Prophater of Ooltewah and Robin E. Smith Grant and her husband, Jeremy Grant of Soddy Daisy; her beloved great-grandchildren to whom she was always “Gigi”: Wilder R. Levi and Sawyer G. Levi of Ooltewah, Braeden T. Smith, Gavin A. Smith  of Baroda, Mi., Lily Grace Grant and Cooper M. Grant of Soddy-Daisy; loving nieces,  Joan Denis DelVecchio of Stratford, Ct., and Carol Higgins Crocker of Wallingford, Ct.; several great-nieces and nephews.

“Mom, Gigi, we will miss you as our special blessing on earth, but know that you now rest in the palm of God’s hand.”

Special thanks to: Pam Lawson for her caring devotion and late night vigils; her friends and the great staff at The Terrace at Mountain Creek, where she resided.  Special thanks to her Terrace nurses, Gail and Elizabeth and the devoted nursing assistants she lovingly called “her great kids”, Terran and Misty for all the extra loving care to Evelyn and family and to Hospice of Chattanooga for their wonderful care especially, Hospice nurse, Lauren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Journey Together Campaign”, St. Jude Church, 930 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga or to the Society of St. Anthony.

A private memorial mass for the family will be held at a later date.  Burial will be in Mt. Carmel, Ct.

Rogers, 20, Shot Twice While Standing On His Porch

A 20-year-old man was shot twice while standing on his porch on Monday night. At approximately 8:44 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a shooting that occurred in the 1900 block of Walker Street.
