They say money can’t buy happiness, but $5 will get you pretty close today. After welcoming its 5 millionth guest earlier this year, the World of Coca-Cola, also known as the home of happiness, is celebrating its fifth anniversary at Pemberton Place with $5 general admission tickets.
"In the five years the new World of Coca-Cola has been at Pemberton Place, we have welcomed more than 5.3 million guests, become the home of the one-and-only secret formula for Coca-Cola and opened happiness for people from around the world,” said Russell Jacobs, general manager of Retail and Attractions for The Coca-Cola Company. “Our guests are the ones who have made these five years such a success, so we’re excited to give back to them with these special anniversary tickets.”
Starting at 10 a.m., the first 500 guests to purchase walk-up tickets will receive $5 general admission for entry today, a savings of $11 from the regular adult ticket price. Each guest will be able to purchase up to five tickets.
In the time it has been located near Centennial Olympic Park, the new World of Coca-Cola has welcomed guests from six continents, more than 75 countries, all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. In addition, 11 percent of the estimated 712,000 visitors to Atlanta from outside North America in 2010 experienced the World of Coca-Cola during their stay. Since becoming the home of the 126-year-old secret formula to Coca-Cola in 2011, the Atlanta attraction has seen increased attendance, strengthening its impact on the city’s hospitality and tourism market.
“The new World of Coca-Cola has served as a catalyst for economic development in our convention corridor and helped to make downtown a destination for Atlanta residents and visitors,” said William Pate, president and CEO of the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Because of additions like the World of Coca-Cola, the Centennial Olympic Park area has become an important gathering place for visitors to our city.”
Those who visit the World of Coca-Cola on its anniversary also will be the first to see David Clayman: Abstract Wood Constructions, the newest exhibit in the Pop Culture Gallery opening today. Just in time for Memorial Day, this exhibit features the work of local artist and decorated veteran David Clayman and his interpretations of the iconic Coca-Cola bottle through 15 original abstract wood constructions. Mr. Clayman studied and lived in New York City before moving to Kennesaw, Ga., in 1992. His work will be featured in the World of Coca-Cola’s Pop Culture Gallery through May 2013.
The World of Coca-Cola moved from its original downtown location on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in 2007 after welcoming 13 million guests during its 17 years there.
