Chattanooga Players Seek State Tennis Titles

MURFREESBORO - 5/25/12 -- Chattanooga prep tennis players in five divisions play for state championships Friday morning at OId Fort Park at BlueCross Spring Fling XIX.

10 a.m. EST - Girls finals in singles and doubles in all divisions

Noon  EST - Boys finals in singles and doubles in all divisions.

D-I A-AA Boys: Singles - Senior Jackson Lenior (Chattanooga Arts & Sciences) is in the finals for the second straight year and plays junior Lucas Spickard (Christ Presbyterian Academy) for the 2012 title. Lenoir defeated Mason Grear (Murf. Central) in the semis, 7-5, 7-6.

D-I A-AA Girls: Doubles -  Ellie and Hannah Henry (Chattanooga Christian) face Barbara Smith/Raleigh Chastain (Christian Academy of Knox.) in the finals.

 D-II AA Boys: Doubles: Eric Roddy/Marko Mandic (Baylor) vs. Mark Lowe/Andrew Karpos (MBA)

D-II AA Girls: Singles - Michelle Fleenor (GPS) takes on Samantha Caswell (Baylor) ...  fifth meeting of the year with Caswell winning the previous four.

D-II AA Girls: Doubles -  Hannah Morrow/Emma McCallie (GPS) vs. defending champion Carolina Orr/Maggie Leavell (Hutchison)

D-I AAA Boys: Singles -  Junior Sean Karn (Ravenwood) goes for his third straight singles title when he faces Drew Forsyth (Cordova) in the finals

D-I AAA Boys: Doubles - Steven Patrick/Harrison Smith (Knox. West) goes for their second title when the face Matt Henson/Seth Buckmaster (Tenn.)

D-II A Girls: Singles - Defending champion Anna Catherine Feaster (Knox Webb) meets Oroma Womeodu ( Lausanne) in a re-match of the 2011 final where Feaster won 6-2, 6-0.

 D-II A GirlS: Doubles - Vicki Garcia (Knox Webb) seeks her fifth doubles championship when she and Jeannine Bell take on a pair of ninth graders from St. Mary's - Carmen Saab/Mary Jane McCaghren ... In 2011, Garcia and Jenni Haydek defeated Saab/McCaghren, 6-1, 6-0

Garica won two titles with her older sister Guinn Garcia (2008-09) and two with Jenni Haydek (2010-11) ...

A win for Garcia will tie her with Knox. Webb alum Berkeley Brock who won five straight doubles championships, 2002-2006 ...   Brock won four times with Elizabeth Googe (2002-05) and once with Guinn Garcia (2006) ...

Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Erlanger Hospital by LifeForce helicopter about 3:15 a.m. The driver was transported by Hamilton County EMS. It is believed he had non-life threatening injuries. ... City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
