Asa George Hayes, 81, of Soddy Daisy, died on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. 

He was a native of Louellen, Ky., and longtime resident of Soddy Daisy. Mr. Hayes was a member of the Daisy Church of God and the Northwest Camp of Gideons International. He retired from the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Postal Service and was the founder and owner for 28 years of the Soddy Bible and Church Supplies. Asa enjoyed gardening, flowers and spending time with his family. 

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Hayes and Royce Hayes and sisters, Carolyn Campbell and Faye Goode.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Billie Jo Penney Hayes; son, Asa Steven Hayes of Soddy Daisy; daughters, Sharon (Ronny) King of Ringgold and Andrea (Scott) Smith of Soddy Daisy; sisters, Bonnie Phipps of Duncanville, Tx., and Kitty Jo (Bill) Burke of Chattanooga; sisters-in-law, Lois Hayes of Soddy Daisy and Mary Hayes of Murfreesboro and Norma (Carroll) Coffman of Soddy Daisy; brother-in-law, Bishop Jackie L. (Evelyn) Penney of Soddy-Daisy; grandchildren, Lauren Hayes, Danielle (Steven) Rogers, Ethan King and Trinity Smith along with several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bishop Sam Phillips officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Gideon Class of Daisy Church of God. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors. 

Visitation will be Thursday from 5-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
