Master Gardeners of Hamilton County, in partnership with the library, are offering gardening classes for urban settings and other small spaces.
Gardening classes, open to the public, are divided into three programs for container gardening projects held on Saturdays: May 12 – Herbs; May 19 – Vegetables; and May 26 – Spillers, Fillers and Thrillers (flowers.) All classes will be held on the Downtown Library’s 11th Street plaza at 2:30 p.m.
“These classes are the first steps in a much bigger project,” said Melissa Wehman, master gardener and library project manager. “The Downtown Library is an important focal point connecting the South Side and the Riverfront communities. As master gardeners, we have agreed to develop a landscaping plan to beautify library grounds while giving urban dwellers unique gardening opportunities.”
As landscapes are developed, community volunteers will be enlisted to install, water and maintain new gardens.
