Retha June Walker Rodgers, 74, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in a local health care facility.  

She was born Sept. 9, 1937, in New Tazewell, Tn., to the late P. Alsie and Roxie Walker. She was a 1955 graduate of Claiborne, County High School. 

Mrs. Rodgers was a devoted member of Tyner United Methodist Church and the Pennington Sunday School Class.  She was active in the United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle, and the Care Bears Ministry. 

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Jimmy Rodgers, Sr.; one daughter, Jamie Bassham and her husband, Terry; one son, Jimmy Rodgers, Jr. and his wife, Michelle all of Chattanooga; four grandchildren, Courtney (Shane) Turner, Cayla Bassham, Riley Rodgers, and Rhett Rodgers; one great-grandchild, Gracie Golden; three brothers, P. A. (Nell) Walker, Doyle (Shelba) Walker of Knoxville; Allen (Darlene) Walker of New Tazewell; and two sisters, Edna (Sherman) Nowling of Knoxville; Sue Walker of Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Valley View Chapel with Reverend Charles C. Harrison, Sr. officiating.  Private family burial will be held on Friday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, prior to the service, from 4:30–7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rogers, 20, Shot Twice While Standing On His Porch

A 20-year-old man was shot twice while standing on his porch on Monday night. At approximately 8:44 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a shooting that occurred in the 1900 block of Walker Street.
