Reasonable & Holy Conversations At Episcopal Church Of The Good Shepherd

Friday, May 04, 2012

Over the course of the next three Sundays, beginning Sunday, the congregation of The Church of the Good Shepherd, 211 Franklin Road, Lookout Mountain, will have "reasonable and Holy Conversations on Same-Gender Relationships." according to the Rev. Robert Childers. These conversations will be held in Talbird Hall during the Christian Formation/Sunday school hour at 9:15 a.m.

Rev. Childers said, "This Sunday I will talk about how the Episcopal Chur.ch has responded to same-gender relationships over the past 35 years. The next two Sundays we will have Dr. Rebecca Wright and Dr. Paul Holloway from St. Luke's School of Theology, Sewanee, share with us the biblical perspective on same-gender relationships."

The Episcopal General Convention will have the subject of same-gender relationships when it meets in July. Rev. Childers said, "I believe it is best and most healthy for us at Good Shepherd to have open, honest and loving conversations about same-gender relationships before this summer's convention, rather than after. I realize that these conversations may be difficult, since many viewpoints are represented within our congregation. Yet, I believe we can, and should, come together for holy and reasonable discussion about these matters as we wrestle with what it means to be Christ's people in the world."
