Hay, Catherine Frances Morris

Catherine Frances Morris Hay, formerly of Chattanooga, died on May 1, 2012, in Manchester, Missouri.

Born July 23, 1941, in Fall River, Mass., Cathy was the daughter of the late Phillip and Marion (Lyons) Morris and grew up in Chattanooga attending local public schools, including Chattanooga High School (old “City High” on Third Street) from which she graduated in 1959. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and later a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Chattanooga. Her career was that of an elementary school teacher in the School District of Ladue, Mo., teaching kindergarten and first and second grades at both Wright and Conway Schools. Cathy loved to travel, to do volunteer work, to read and to play bridge.

A lifelong Episcopalian, she and her family were members of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Chattanooga; she later joined St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Ellisville, Mo.

A service in celebration of her life will be held at St. Martin’s on Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m., with interment at Christ Church Cathedral.
