Ruthie Pendergrass Lackey, 80, of East Ridge, Tennessee, died on Friday, May 4, 2012.  

She was a member of Spring Creek Church of God, a Bible scholar and Sunday school teacher. She had been active in the PTA while raising her children. 

She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Lackey, three sisters, Emma Tankersley, Gracie Hancock and Gertrude Davis; three brothers, Noah, James and M.L. Pendergrass.

Survivors include her husband, George Lackey; children, Wanda (Charles) Gann of Soddy Daisy, Anthony (Sherie) Lackey of East Ridge and Melvin Lackey of Chattanooga; two sisters, Ruby Veal and Jessie Mae Davis; seven grandchildren, Keith Gann, Michelle Murphy, Patrick Lackey, Kristen Jeffers, Jacob Lackey, Neal Lackey and Sarah Gravely; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 7, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Reverend Ed Lemond officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.  

The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank Caris Hospice for their generous and loving care of Mrs. Lackey over the past 2½ years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Caris Hospice.
