The Greater Chattanooga Area Chapter of the American Red announced that Executive Director Barbara Alexander has resigned her position as head of the chapter.
While a search for Ms. Alexander’s replacement begins, veteran Red Cross employee Teresa Caver will serve as the interim leader of the chapter. Ms. Caver has more than 30 years of experience working with Red Cross chapters across the nation and has served in a number of chapters as an interim executive, most recently in Central New York Regional Chapter in Syracuse, N.
Jane Simpson, board chair, American Red Cross, Chattanooga Area Chapter, applauded Ms. Alexander’s work with the organization.
She said, “We are very appreciative of Barbara's contributions to the Red Cross. She has led our work in Southeast Tennessee through successful disaster responses locally, including floods and tornadoes. She has helped build our board of directors, grown our financial support, and increased the community’s awareness of our work. We wish her well in all her future endeavors.”
During Ms. Alexander’s tenure as executive director, the chapter has increased service delivery to the community and responded to four national disaster operations in Chattanooga.
She said, "I have truly appreciated the opportunity to work for the American Red Cross and have been honored to work alongside incredible volunteers and staff which have made a difference for so many people living and working in our communities. I trust that those volunteers will continue providing leadership, services and education which are the heart of the American Red Cross mission."
Also announced, was the appointment of Sandy Matheson, as chief development officer. Ms. Matheson comes to the Red Cross with 20 years of non-profit development experience and has been a Red Cross disaster responder since 2005.
Ms. Matheson will be responsible for American Red Cross financial development activities for the entire East Tennessee Region.
