Beloved Science Professor At Covenant College Was Veteran, Musician, & Minister

Raymond H. Dameron, 88, died on Monday, May 7, 2012. 

Mr. Dameron was born in Chester, Pa., on Sept. 19, 1923, to Henry C. and Ida S. Dameron. He served with the Air Force in World War II. He was a graduate of Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University). He held post-graduate degrees from Covenant Theological Seminary and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. 

Professor Dameron taught science for 35 years at Covenant College, sang for many years with the Chattanooga Opera chorus and his church choir, and was a minister in the Presbyterian Church in America.

He was loving husband to Dorothy E. Dameron, father of Beth Dameron Carroll, grandfather of Laura E. Allen, Jennifer N. Fearnow and D. Seth Fearnow, and great-grandfather of Elijah H. Allen.


Burial will be on Thursday, May 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery. 

His family will receive friends from 10:30 until noon on Friday, May 11, at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church. 

A memorial service will follow at noon in the church sanctuary. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts are sent to Covenant College.

Rogers, 20, Shot Twice While Standing On His Porch

A 20-year-old man was shot twice while standing on his porch on Monday night. At approximately 8:44 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a shooting that occurred in the 1900 block of Walker Street.
