Wacker Presents Scholarships To Local Students

Local high school seniors Abigail Boltniew of Bradley High School and Taylor Morris of Walker Valley High School each received a $1,000 scholarship from Wacker Polysilicon North America. Dr. Konrad Bachhuber, vice president and site manager for the company, recognized each student for his/her excellence by presenting a certificate at each school’s awards night.

“At Wacker, we know that the leaders of tomorrow and our future employees are being created by the educational environment today,” said Dr.

Bachhuber.  “It is an honor to recognize these students for their outstanding achievements, and we commend them for continuing to further their education after high school.” 

Both Miss Boltniew and Mr. Morris are valedictorians for the class of 2012 at their respective schools. Miss Boltniew plans to attend Lee University, and Mr. Morris will attend the University of the South.

Grainger Foundation Supports Georgia Northwestern Technical College Foundation

Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Erlanger Hospital by LifeForce helicopter about 3:15 a.m. The driver was transported by Hamilton County EMS. It is believed he had non-life threatening injuries. ... City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
