Hunter, Harold (Summerville)

Harold Hunter, age 87 of Summerville, Georgia, died on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Hunter was born in Cedar Bluff, Ala., on September 2, 1923, son of the late Andrew M. Hunter and Amanda Viola Woodall. He was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed with Bigelow-Sanford. 

Mr. Hunter was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He was a Purple Heart recipient and served in Italy, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Mr. Hunter was a charter member of the America’s National World War II Museum and was an avid knife collector, being a member of the W. R. Case and Son Cutlery Collection Club. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Hunter, and twelve brothers and sisters.

Mr. Hunter is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth (O.B) and Lynda Hunter; daughter, Glenda Rutledge; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Hunter will be held on Tuesday, June 12, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Reverend Todd Smith and Mr. Tommy Dover officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Leon Woody, Sherman Rutledge, Wayne Keen, Arron Rutledge, Wayne Mann and John Lawrence.

Mr. Hunter will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday, June 11, from 6-8 p.m. 


Heuser, Valetta Jean (Rock Spring)

Valetta Jean Heuser, 93, of Rock Spring, died on Monday, May 20, 2013 in a local hospital. Hayden Lamar Lasley, 60, of Hixson, died on Monday, May 20, 2013.   He was a longtime area girls softball coach for more than 35 years.
