Mayfield: Only Bold Reform Can Change Washington

Monday, June 11, 2012

Third District Republican congressional candidate Scottie Mayfield released his fifth position paper Monday via his website, proclaiming Washington is in need of serious reform.

"Not only do we need tax reform and legislation that will curb outrageous spending, we also need reform for those who serve in Congress," said Mr. Mayfield. "The president has term-limits and so should those who serve in the House and Senate."

Mr. Mayfield recently pledged to serve 10 years in Congress and believes lawmakers should serve no more than 12 years.

Among the reforms Mr. Mayfield says he'll support:

  • Term limits for members of Congress.
  • Spending reform.
  • A balanced budget amendment.
  • A line-item veto.
  • Tort reform to discourage frivolous lawsuits.
  • Repeal and replace Obamacare with free market solutions that help people without massive new bureaucracies and taxes.
  • Tax reform that simplifies the tax code, helps small businesses and grows the economy.
  • Require Congress and federal officials to live under the same laws they make for everyone else.
  • Smaller, smarter, more efficient government.
The Third District Republican primary is Aug. 2. Early voting begins on July 13.
