William H. “Bassman” Overall, Jr., 87, died on Friday, June 8, 2012.  

He was born on May 29, 1925, to William M. Overall, Sr. and Mattie Bernice Overall. William was one of 11 children.

He later joined the U.S. Navy where he served for three years.

He married Marian L. Rutledge on Dec. 21, 1966. William accepted Christ later in his adult life and joined New Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Floyd Whiteside, where he served as chairman of the trustees. William was a member of the Masons-South Chattanooga Chapter #121.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, at New Mount Carmel Baptist Church, with Pastor Whiteside officiating. Interment will be in National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Wednesday, June 13, with the family receiving friends from 6–7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.

Woman Found Dead On Lovell Road; Police Looking For Man Who Is On Tennessee Sex Offender Registry

A woman was found dead on Sunday morning at 8912 Lovell Road, and police are seeking a "person of interest" in the case.
