Helton, Morton Earn Chattanooga Open Titles

The 37th Annual Ira Templeton Chattanooga Open began with an extended rain delay in the early morning. Thanks in large part to the Course Superintendent as well as the patience and understanding of the players, competitors were able to start after a five and a half hour rain delay with a 2 p.
m. shotgun. With rain hovering the area for most of the first round, all 18 holes were able to be completed.
In the Overall Senior Division Randy Helton, PGA fired a first round four under par 66 and then followed it up with a second round 71 to tie Bob Rice of Riceville, TN at 137 for their 36-hole total. Helton and Rice went into a playoff that started on number one. Helton was able to come out victorious and won the overall Senior Division. Randy also won the Senior Professional Division for his efforts. Rice won the Senior Amateurs division for his strong play.
The Overall Regular Division saw Professional Euggie Jones, PGA and Amateur Ray Morton both come in the clubhouse with 36-hole totals of 135 to force a playoff which started on hole number one. Morton was able to birdie the playoff hole to beat out Jones for the Overall Regular Division title as well as the Regular Amateur Division. Jones was able to win the Regular Professional Division with a strong second round score of five under par 65.

Lookouts Nip Wahoos, 1-0, In Pitcher's Duel

Lefty Chris Reed made what was perhaps his best start of the season. Reed threw a scoreless five innings and gave up just two hits. Three pitchers followed with shutout ball as the Lookouts beat Pensacola, 1-0, in the second game of their five-game series at AT&T Field. Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. Officials said it consisted of numerous pit bills, a fight ring, a treadmill and blood-stained carpets and paneling. Mcckamey Animal Services personnel were processing the fight scene. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
