Children’s Hospital Kicks Off Run For Miracles On June 23

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Chattanooga Track Club will kick off the second annual Run for Miracles during the Market Street Miracle Mile on Saturday, June 23.

The Market Street Miracle Mile is one of several running events in the Run for Miracles series that is a family-friendly event and encourages runners of all ages and abilities to participate.  The event offers one-mile competitive heats for those who wish to match their abilities against current state record holders.  There is also a non-competitive Children’s Hospital heat for adults who wish to run or walk with their children or use strollers and wheelchairs.

“We are excited to partner with the Chattanooga Track Club again and offer an opportunity for families to launch or develop fitness goals while also supporting Children’s Hospital at Erlanger,” said Ali Dunn, annual giving director for the Children’s Hospital Foundation.  “Partial proceeds from the Run for Miracles events benefit the amazing medical care our staff is providing at Children’s Hospital.”

For school-age children in first through sixth grades for the 2012-2013 school year, participation in the Market Street Miracle Mile can represent the first mile in their quest to run a marathon (26.2 miles) by November 10 as part of the Junior Miracle Marathon program.  The last mile of the series will be in conjunction with the annual Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon and Half Marathon.  Participants will run, jog or walk during the event to complete the marathon miles on a section of the actual course.  Upon completion, they will receive a replica of the adult marathon finisher’s medal as a keepsake for their hard work and dedication.

For adults who plan to train for the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon or Half Marathon, participation in the Market Street Miracle Mile can represent the first mile in their training program for the Miracle Team.  The Miracle Team includes runners who go the extra mile in raising $1,000 each for Children’s Hospital.

Registered adults and children in the Run for Miracles series will have the ability to create their very own fundraising page from home to blast to family and friends for donations and support.  They can post information about their running progress, photos, and special stories about the marathon experience.

For more information on the Run for Miracles series, including the Junior Miracle Marathon and Miracle Team and to register, please visit www.runformiracles.org or contact ali.dunn@erlanger.org or 778-3989.  To register for the Market Street Miracle Mile, visit www.active.com.  Registration for the Market Street Miracle Mile varies from $10-15.  The deadline to register for this event is June 21.
