The Second Annual Junteenth Chattanooga! Celebration will be held at Eastdale Village Community United Methodist Church on Junteenth Day, Tuesday.
The free festivities will include old school games such as double dutch rope jumping, jacks, red light, tug of war and four squares. There will be face painting and food as well as a showing and discussion of the movie on gang history, “Bastards of the Party.”
Live performances will include poetry, storytelling, dance and music. Junteenth Chattanooga’s purpose is to continue observance of the spontaneous celebration that happened when the last American slaves were freed in Texas on June 19, 1865. The tradition continues in many cities around the country and in some African countries.
