Peggy Booth Wilgus, 77, of Signal Mountain, passed away on June 12, 2012 at Alexian Village with her devoted husband by her side.

Peggy was born in Nashville, on July 1, 1934.  She graduated from Nashville Howard High School in 1952 and Peabody College in 1956.  She was married to Jim Wilgus on June 20, 1958.  She was an elementary school teacher in the Nashville area for 13 years.  After moving to Knoxville in 1972, she was involved in numerous church and other organizations for many years.  As a member of Shannondale Presbyterian Church and then St. John’s Lutheran Church, she loved singing in church choir.  Peggy and Jim moved to Alexian Village on Signal Mountain in 2002.  A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she was an avid reader and puzzle solver and was well known and loved for her contagious smile and generous spirit.  She will be dearly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth Booth; and her sister, Elva Booth Fryer.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Wilgus; children: Jim Wilgus Jr., Ruth Wilgus Gehring, John Wilgus and Barbara Wilgus; grandchildren: Sarah and Sam Wilgus, William and Allison Gehring, Lyra Wilgus and Cassy Payton; brother, Robert Booth Jr.; and numerous beloved extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, in the Alexian Village Chapel with receiving of friends following.  A service for placement of ashes will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, at St. John’s Lutheran Church Columbarium in Knoxville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alexian Village Healthcare Scholarship Fund or Alexian Village Residents’ Association Scholarship Fund.  Information regarding donations can be found by calling 886-0100.
