Brooks, Evelyn Padgett (Chickamauga)

Evelyn Padgett Brooks, 90, of Chickamauga, Georgia, died on Saturday, June 16, 2012 following an extended illness. 

A native of Henegar, Ala., Evelyn lived the past 49 years in Chickamauga. She was employed as a textile worker by Crystal Springs Bleachery, Dan River Mills and Synthetic Industries where she retired in 1986. She was a faithful wife of 42 years and a hard working, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Evelyn was the daughter of the late L.D. “Bud” and Zora Brooks Padgett and was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Brooks and son, Arbie Walter Brooks; brothers, J.B. and E.L. Padgett and sisters, Annie Workman, Maggie Bohanon and Jessie Johnston.

She is survived by two sons, Billy Brooks (Mary Lou) of Brunswick, Ga., and Frankie Brooks (Sarah) of LaFayette; one daughter, Teresa Brooks Manning (Bill) of Chickamauga; daughter-in-law, Josiane Benedicto Brooks of East Ridge, Tn.; two sisters, Christine Davis of Ringgold, and Mae Painter of Flintstone; eight grandchildren, Eric Brooks, Tammy Brooks Thomas, Whitney Brooks Johnson, Kasey Brooks Smith, Stephen Brooks, Jennifer Brooks, Jerry Helton and Joshua Helton; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Reverend Wilton Grimes officiating. 

She will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until funeral time.  Interment will follow at the Chickamauga City Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 17, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Those serving as pallbearers are: Joshua Helton, Stephen Brooks, Patrick Smith, Matthew Brooks, Jonathon Brooks and Scott Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers are the staff of NHC of Rossville and Hospice of Chattanooga. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, NHC of Rossville or Hospice of Chattanooga.

Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge.
