Public Safety Officer With TVA For 17 Years; Former East Ridge Police Detective

Carl J. McKaig Sr.,  75,  of  East Ridge, died on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at his home.

A lifelong resident of Hamilton County,  Mr. McKaig was retired from TVA as a Public Safety officer after 17 years of service.  He was formerly employed with the East Ridge Police Department as a detective and was one of the first security officers at Memorial Hospital.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam and Korea and was a member of the East Lake Masonic Lodge #698.

Mr. McKaig was a member of Anchor of Baptist Faith Church and was preceded in death by two sons, Darrell McKaig and Ernest Brian McKaig.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Phyllis McCarson McKaig; daughter, Sherry (Danny) Shaw,  Jacksonville, Fla. ; son, Carl J. (Jerry) McKaig Jr., East Ridge; daughter in law, Renee McKaig, Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Katie Shaw,  Lindsey Walker,  Jessica Merciers, Carl J. (Jeremy) McKaig III and James Brian McKaig;  six great-grandchildren, special niece, Patti Edge, Chattanooga and several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Thursday, June 21, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Billy Dean officiating. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
