Chattanooga Community Housing Development Organization Offers Roof Replacement Grants

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Chattanooga Community Housing Development Organization (CCHDO) is offering forgivable Grants for Roof Replacement to income qualified homeowners in Chattanooga.

Many low to moderate income residents of the city have felt the negative effects of the economy and are not able to make basic repairs to their homes. One of the main maintenance items for a home owner is roof replacement. Roof replacement is often the most expensive improvement made to a home. CHDO’s Roof Replacement Program is designed to assist lower-income families in making this vital improvement.

Roya Evans, executive director of CCHDO said, “The roof is one of the most important parts of a home structure and if it is not repaired in a timely manner, the whole house will suffer and in a short time become uninhabitable due to severe moisture damage. Deteriorating conditions can pose a serious threat to the health, safety or welfare of the household and affect the immediate livability of the home.”

The Roof Replacement Program, through federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, provides a forgivable grant to homeowners who make below 80% of Chattanooga median income - approximately $46,250 for a family of four. The intent of this program is to replace older roofs and existing accessories only. Additional eligibility requirements may apply.

Interested homeowners should call CCHDO at 423 668-9804 and ask about the Roof Replacement Grant. The application deadline is Aug. 30.

CCHDO is a private non profit organization with the goal to provide affordable homeownership for low to moderate-income families and revitalize Chattanooga neighborhoods through partnership with the City of Chattanooga, and other community development organizations.
