A brake failure led to a single car crash that damaged the flag pole in front of the Dalton Fire Department’s Station #1 on Wednesday afternoon. No one was hurt in the accident.
The crash happened shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday. Driver Maria Gonzalez, 44, told Dalton Police that she was traveling northbound on Valley Drive approaching the four-way stop sign at School Street when her brakes failed. She rolled through the intersection and down the hill approaching Waugh Street where other cars were waiting at a red light. Not wanting to hit the other cars, Ms. Gonzalez told police that she veered to the right into the parking lot of Station #1, hitting the flag pole. The collision knocked the flag pole out of the ground and caused the air bags in the minivan to deploy.
Neither Ms. Gonzelez or her two children in the vehicle were injured.
There were no charges filed in the crash.
