Flaws In Sheriff Hammond's Posse Defense - And Response

Thursday, June 21, 2012

The major concern that I have with giving deputy commissions and gun-carry approval to private citizens is that it provides a very gray area as to the use of deadly force, hence the Zimmerman debacle.

It is worrisome if a private citizen can be granted the power to use deadly force equal to or more freely than a trained law enforcement officer.  I hope this is not the case here.

All U.S. citizens have the power to use deadly force for self defense by way of the the Second Amendment.  That doesn't mean one can get away with murder nor create vigilante justice, there are laws regarding the use of deadly force.

However defending yourself and or family by way of deadly force is a right that all citizens carry, no need for the sheriff's approval.  The stand your ground law is a needed regulation, the problem with the law is not in the law but the lawyers that attempt to twist the law to defend their clients.  Do a little research into the law and why it exists.  The media is not willing to show the necessary side of the law because it doesn't fit their agenda.

The Zimmerman occurrence is very rare situation and until all the facts are aired out in court its not really relevant as its still just speculation at this point.  Thousands of private citizens have a concealed carry permit in Tennessee (363,499 statewide and 16,134 in Hamilton County as of this month to be exact) and millions of gun owners nation wide have not committed gun crimes.

The flaw I see is your attempt to trample the Second Amendment.

Roy Exum: Hypocrisy And Horses

I am still wincing over the fact a horrendous bill passed in the state legislature that would make whistle-blowers into criminals would have actually gone into law had it not been for Governor Bill Haslam’s eleventh-hour veto. Called the “Ag-Gag bill,” similar efforts in other states have also soured because it is no more than a Catch-22 trick to protect those who abuse animals, ... (click for more)
