National Night Out is an annual event that strengthens neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships. It sends a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
A new date has been set for 2012. The National Night Out event is usually held the first Tuesday in August. This year the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police has decided that the state of Tennessee will recognize National Night Out on Oct. 2.
The reason for the change is the cooler weather will make it easier for more people to participate in the planned activities.
