Former Signal Mountain head wrestling coach John Lennon has been hired as the new head coach at Chattanooga Central.
Lennon replaces Marquis Dotson who resigned as coach and teacher at the end of the school year. Dotson led the Purple Pounders to the A-AA state duals title in February.
Lennon was a two-time state champion at Cleveland (1980, '81) and the state tournament Outstanding Wrestler in 1981.
"I am really excited to be at Chattanooga Central as we have a good core of wrestlers returning from the last year's state championship team," said Lennon who won the Central Invitational three times.
"Marquis did an amazing job last year as head coach in winning a state duals title and I look forward to continuing the winning tradition."
He was the Signal Mountain head coach for the past two seasons and resigned as the wrestling coach prior to this year's state tournament.
Lennon will continue to direct the Signal Mountain High School drama department.
