Frank Harrison Tipton, Sr., 72, of Dalton, Ga., died Sunday morning, June 24, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
Frank was born August 15, 1939 in Chattanooga, a son of the late Paul Avril Tipton, Sr. and Bonnie Isabella Goforth Tipton; and was also preceded in death by a son, Frank Harrison, Jr.; a granddaughter, Natasha Juliet Quarles; and a brother, Charles Tipton.
Frank proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He enlisted in 1957, served during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965 thru 1968, was a member of the Georgia National Guard and was called into active duty during Desert Storm. Frank was retired from the U.S. Army and the Dalton Fire Department. Frank was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Whitfield County Saddle Club. Frank was an avid outdoorsman and was a true cowboy at heart.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Green Tipton of Dalton; daughters and son-in-law, Marcy and Rex Quarles of Dalton and Amii Tipton Harris of Opelika, Ala.; son, William Blake Tipton of Dalton; grandchildren, Eric and Amber Quarles of Virginia Beach, John and Cornelia Quarles of Dalton, Elliott and Lindsy Quarles of Albuquerque, N.M. and McKenna and Gregory Moore of Dalton; great-grandchildren, Samuel and Chloe Quarles of Virginia Beach; former wife and caregiver, Barbara Teresin Bartlett of Dalton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Manat Tipton and John Tipton all of Dalton and Lloyd and Ehua Tipton of Scottsdale, Az.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Drusilla James of Tunnel Hill, Oneita and Doyal Long of Morganton, Ga. and Lillie and Carl Newman and Sandy Bridges all of Dalton; brother-in-law and sister-in-laws, Billy R. and Rosalee Green of Dalton; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved horse, Bare.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Frank Harrison Tipton will be held Wednesday, June 27, at 1:30 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with his brothers, Paul and John delivering the eulogy. He will be laid to rest at the West Hill Cemetery with members of the Dalton Fire Department servings as pallbearers. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Dalton American Legion Post #112.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 26 and after 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 27 until the service hour.
