Congressman Chuck Fleischmann made the following statement after voting to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress.
“No one is above the law. Not me, not the President, and certainly not the Attorney General. Eric Holder’s continued stonewalling in the wake of the Fast & Furious scandal is a disgrace. Congress and the American public have the right to a full accounting about a scandal where guns were knowingly put in the hands of straw purchasers affiliated with drug cartels.
This was done over the objections of on-the-ground ATF agents and concerned gun shop owners. Fast & Furious directly led to the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, as well as numerous Mexican citizens.
“Since there is near universal agreement that Fast & Furious was at best misguided, one would think that Eric Holder would want to work with Congress to get to the bottom of this. Instead, he has stonewalled at every turn, and made statements to investigators which have been contradicted by Department of Justice documents. Now, President Obama has joined in the stonewalling, deciding to assert executive privilege. The American people demand answers, and it is my hope that by finding Eric Holder in contempt, we will get those answers.”
