Search and rescue crews continue to look for a man who is missing after a boating accident on the Nolichucky River in Washington County.
According to TWRA Officers, just before 11 a.m. a small flat-bottom boat carrying three adults and two children capsized shortly after being launched near AJ Willis Road in Jonesborough. All five occupants went into the water. Officers say that the children were wearing personal flotation devices while it is unclear whether the adults were.
One adult male, who has been identified as the vessel’s operator, was unable to safely make it to shore.
Members of local search and rescue crews spent the duration of the day diving and searching for the victim. The East Tennessee Special Response Team Canine Search and Rescue crew also brought in Cadaver Dogs that are trained in detecting missing people below the water’s surface. Officials say that the search has been suspended until tomorrow morning.
The accident is under investigation by the TWRA.
