Sheriff Jim Hammond confirmed that a lieutenant who showed up for duty at the County Jail on Friday night was sent home after he was given a Breathalyzer.
Sheriff Hammond said Lt. Ray Haveman is suspended with pay.
He said an Internal Affairs investigation is underway.
The sheriff said a co-worker smelled alcohol on Lt. Haveman after he arrived for work.
He was then administered the test to determine his blood-alcohol level. Based on the results, he was suspended.
Sheriff Hammond said he was not charged with any criminal offense, though he apparently drove himself to the jail.
