Holston Army Ammunition Plant (HSAAP) will not be holding any deer hunts or accepting applications for hunts for the upcoming 2012 deer hunting season.
According to Bruce Cole, hunter observations from last year as well as visual surveys conducted by HSAAP’s biologist indicate that the deer population has decreased significantly at HSAAP. Hunting, which is utilized as a management tool to maintain a stable deer population on the installation, will not be conducted in 2012.
HSAAP will continue to monitor its deer herd and reinstate the hunts in 2013 if an increase in the population warrants doing so.
